ROLE DESCRIPTION
The Applications Scientist will join a team providing both internal and external expertise in column chromatography and downstream processing of biopharmaceuticals. The ideal candidate will be well skilled in downstream protein purification by column chromatography and associated impurities analysis (ELISA, HPLC, UV/vis).

The role involves managing complex projects and working closely with customers, management, sales and other research/technical staff, with regular reporting in both oral and written formats. The role also involves writing papers for scientific publications with the potential for presenting at industry-relevant conferences globally. Additionally, the role may involve international travel to support customers and the commercial team.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

• The successful candidate will work with Bioprocessing resins. designed specifically for the purification of monoclonal antibodies. These are used in the treatment of a range of ailments such as cancer, rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes. Manufactured in a purpose-built facility - one of the largest of its kind in the world.
• ABOUT THE CANDIDATE
  Essential Criteria:
• Degree in chemistry, materials, biochemistry or related subject.
  Comprehensive knowledge or experience of downstream process development including relevant analytical assays (electrophoresis, ELISA, HPLC)
  Experience in the use and testing of chromatography resins including extensive use of AKTA instruments
  Experience in method development
  Ability to write scientific and technical reports as well good oral presentational skills with a proven track record of scientific publications
  Be able and willing to handle hazardous chemicals according to documented H&S documentation and processes
  Use of MS office, project management tools, scientific computer software including DoE
  Desirable:
• PhD degree in chemistry, materials, biochemistry or related subject.
  Knowledge of upstream processing in the biopharmaceutical industry
  Experience in large scale column packing.
  Experience in virus purification
  At least 2 years industrial experience
  Knowledge of appropriate H&S legislation and industry standards including ISO9001/14001/OHAS 18001.
